For the second year, Artivate is proud to partner with the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture as a sponsor of Carousel Day celebrating the 98th opening of the park’s Dentzel Carousel this Saturday!
The event features a full day of free activities throughout the park, including performances by two of Artivate’s teaching artists. Sing and dance your way to a better understanding of the natural world with performances of Ways of the Bay with Artivate’s Billy B. Then take a tour of traditional folk music featuring exotic and handmade wooden flutes, enchanting violin and captivating traditional dance with Gerdan’s Kaleidoscope of World Music.
Glen Echo Park is part of the US National Park Service and home to year-round arts activities and events. Installed at Glen Echo Park in 1921, The Dentzel Carousel’s canopy and the carved figures were made by the Dentzel Carousel Company of Germantown, Pennsylvania. It is a classic example of hand woodcarving popular during the early 1900s. From 1983 through 2003, the carousel was fully restored – including each animal. The traditional revolving ride can be ridden by children and adults alike and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
See you at the park!
