Year-End Giving with Artivate

  • December 21, 2017

What a year! In 2017, Artivate’s more than sixty professional teaching artists have presented over 550 performances, 620 workshops, and 70 artist-in-residence programs in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and northern Virginia.

Because of the support of our donors, we were able to dedicate one-third of that programming to children, educators and families from schools and communities that lack access to educational arts programming. That translates to more than 420 artist programs presented to students and educators at over 50 Title I and special needs schools, children/families at 18 community-based public venues; and youth and women at six correctional and detention facilities.

But our work is about more than just numbers. It’s about creating experiences like these:

“Andes Manta recently performed for our school and provided a transformational experience for our community. Students as well as teachers were directly engaged in the program ensuring a memorable learning opportunity for all. The level of talent was exceptional and my children continued to talk about the program at home for weeks afterward.”

“St. Coletta School truly enjoyed having Christylez Bacon here to perform. He was very understanding of the needs of our students and ensured that they were able to participate and enjoy his performance. His really seemed to want to understand more about how to adapt his shows for students with special needs. It was a fun day for all of our staff and students!”

 – St. Coletta of Greater Washington, Washington, DC

“The art class was an uplifting experience that I wish would never end. Sometimes all a person may need is a ray of hope or a moment of tranquility to refocus his life. I found that moment in art class. I am not a perfect person but I am as close to perfect peace while I am in art class. Please do whatever it takes to continue this program.”
